Beta Club

An organization that is open to 7th and 8th graders. It is a Junior National Honor Society that students are invited into based on their previous year’s earned cumulative GPA. We invite incoming 7th and 8th graders that have earned a cumulative of 3.60 or higher, usually in July. Members volunteer and serve at many events and activities within Westfield as well as around the school and in the community.

The purpose of this organization is to promote the ideals of honesty, service, morality, ethical conduct, and leadership among middle school students; to reward meritorious academic achievement; and to encourage and assist students in continuing their service, leadership, and education into high school.

Chamber Orchestra

The Westfield Community School Music Department offers an auditioned orchestral group called Chamber Orchestra. This group meets on Thursday and Friday mornings before school. This group is comprised of students from mainly 7th and 8th grades or other students with at least two years of playing experience. Chamber Orchestra has two concerts a year and performs for special events in the community.

Eighth Grade Washington D.C. Trip

The Washington D.C. trip is open to all WCS eighth grade students interested in visiting the nation's capital and learning more about the people, places, and things that helped to form the nation's history. The trip is a three-day guided journey where students and teachers will visit historical sites; view historical objects, and participate in simulations.

Honor Choir

Westfield's Choral Department offers an advanced chamber vocal ensemble called Honor Choir open to 7th and 8th graders. This is an auditioned group that begins in September and runs through the end of the school year in May. This group focuses on more challenging pieces in 3 and 4 parts in various styles. Each year this group has various opportunities for extra performances within the community as well, especially around the holidays!

Intramurals

Westfield offers an Intramural sports program that is offered to all students at Westfield. Participants will work on skills and strategies of the game as well as create teams and will compete against each other throughout that particular intramural season. There are no cuts in the Intramural sports program. Participants are required to turn in a parent permission slip in order to participate. Throughout the school year many different intramural sports are offered. Volleyball is offered during the Fall. Wrestling is offered during the Winter. Floor Hockey and Soccer are offered in the Spring. Announcements will be made a couple weeks before each program begins to ensure all interested students can gather the information.

Math Club

Math Club is open to all middle school students who want to learn creative ways to solve complex math problems. At our meetings, we participate in the MATHCOUNTS club program. We dive into different problems and apply skills or look for patterns that can lead us to shortcuts in solving math. Our club involves great discussions, friendly competition, and many opportunities for thinking outside the box. Student Council

The WCS Student Council consists of representatives from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The students focus on school and community leadership skills. Within the club, students select sub-committees to develop these skills. They range from attending PTO meetings, providing new student tours, planning the middle school fall dance, and hosting the school Variety Show. They also have opportunities to extend their skills outside the school and volunteer at the D300 Food Pantry.
